Its Christmas!!!!!
How is everyones present buying going? Has anyone been to any good parties? And what are you all doing on Christmas Day? I have got all my presents at long last, despite the freezing cold snow and fighting my way through legions of Christmas Shoppers and waiting in twenty deep ques to pay for things. I am all partied out and I have only been to three, I don't want to see another sausage roll or canape or drink another glass of mulled wine until next Christmas. I am having a very quiet Christmas Day with my family, I intend to eat my own bodyweight in food, watch Christmas TV and no doubt fall asleep at 3pm.
Oh! And I have the cold from hell! I woke myself up about four times last night with horrible coughing fits and my stupid washing machine decided to leak water all over my kitchen floor. I am not having the best of days.

Re: Its Christmas!!!!!
I did some shopping this afternoon, bought my dad's present and for myself, pantyhose, two shirts and two sweaters.
One of my sisters is getting married on Mon. Dec. 20. Although it will be a small wedding, city hall followed by dinner at a restaurant, all our energies and excitement are naturally focussed on this event rather than Christmas. My two sisters and I went shopping together for dresses; the bride is wearing a gorgeous plum coat dress, a Mad Men type dress. I bought an elegant cocktail type dress that I quite like. The only problem; it has been years since I last wore pantyhose. Sister 2 told me about these waist-less pantyhose which I happily found this afternoon. I haven't tried them on yet, but I'm afraid they will just roll down when I least expect it.
The only time I remember that Christmas is coming is when I go to my advent calendar. I bought four, one each for my nephew and niece and for my friend's two children. I realised too late that my niece can't have chocolate at 16 months of age so I kept it.
Come Tuesday morning, I plan to get out my Nat King Cole Christmas album and get in the mood.

How exciting fruitbat, I love weddings, I hope you all have a fabulous day. Not sure if I like the sound of those tights though! Marks & Spencer are doing these fabulous ones at the moment, you don't have to wear pants with them and they hold you in and pull up your bum, I now own three pairs, they make you feel great.

Re: Its Christmas!!!!!
All my shopping is done since I only give a small gift and then the rest in cash to everyone.
The problem is my daughter doesn't know what to give me. I've got everything I need. At 77 years of age you kind've accumulate all the important stuff. She'll think of something I'm sure. Anyway there is too much emphasis on gifts so we're all trying to cut back.

Re: Its Christmas!!!!!
Just came back from shopping.
Bought gifts for my mom and dad (and a nice book for myself LOL! next time I won't visit the bookstore, I always end up buying something. I have run out of shelf space for my books. )
Spent a lot today, but it was worth it!

Work has been too busy, I haven't had time to do any Christmas preparations yet. But there's only two more days before Christmas vacation now, so that will give me two days to do everything, it's all about being effective...

Re: Its Christmas!!!!!
Just got our tree up yesterday--spent 11 days in England after traveling to attend my mother-in-law's funeral, which made it a little difficult to focus on Christmas activities! (Thought I did buy some tights at M&S, Heather--not the ones you describe, but some lovely opaque ones that stay up nicely, despite my protruding tum. I was so pleased with them that I went back and bought another pair! Also stuffed our luggage full of mince pies and chocolate )
Judging by the news, though, we were lucky to get out of England when we did! We've got an inch or so of snow here in Virginia, lingering festively, but even southern Sweden appears to be struggling to cope right now!

Christmas shopping is done. Tree went up Thanksgiving evening. It's . . . wait for it . . . a purple tree. Surprisingly, it's my first one. Last year after Christmas, I went to Michael's (a craft store here) 75% off ornaments sale. And there were boxes and boxes of purple ones. So, I indulged at a quarter of the price. I'm so pleased.
grannybear, you can always use a gift certificate from Amazon. There'll always be something of Jason's to buy.
Tights? Stockings? Haven't worn either since menopause and hot flashes hit. Got to vent somewhere. There's plenty of real estate on legs for that.
And in these sunny climes, you can get away with it.

Helen.........I like the idea of a purple tree. Mine is black wrought iron that I got from a catalog. It's to show off the ornaments I've gotten on my travels. Anyway it's different.
But I like the thought of a purple tree. I've never seen one. I've seen pink, silver, blue but never purple. I bet it's pretty.

My tree is pink, I absolutely love it! I have put black tinsel and blue lights on it and it looks great. It is from Asda's Tickled Pink range, they raise funds for research into breast cancer so not only do I have a great tree I made a charitable donation buying it.

Helen and Heather - we want to see pictures of your tree!!!! Purple and Pink - wow - they both sounds fantastic! Mine is classic - but all the ornaments on the tree are cat ornaments - about 200 of them (perhaps more - I never counted them - but I have so many even on a 7 1/2 foot tree it is hard finding spaces for them all!!)

Marie, Are your cats good around the tree, or do you have to keep them away?
