How's The Weather Up There?

Post by grannybear » Wed Dec 29, 2010 1:07 pm

I was watching the weather reports for the NE U.S. and it sounds real bad. Any first hand news?
I know our friends in Europe have had a bad winter so far. Seems to be bad all over.

My folks are in NY (Long Island), and they described a bizarre situation where the snow drifts are several feet high on one side of the house and there's seemingly only an inch or two of snow on the other side of the house, because of the strong winds during the storm.

the wind was so terrible, I don't know if we had 6 or 8 inches of snow...lots of drifting and blowing around...

today was the first day the wind was significantly LESS :woot

reached 40 degrees and those inches are melting fast....our forecast for New Years Day is 55 degrees :woot

that was a very scary Nor Easter, for me, it was the wind...

We have had a thaw over the last couple of days and I can't tell you how good it is to see the pavement and some grass again, the only thing that is bugging me now is all the grit, I walked to the shops this morning and by the time I got back my boots were full of the stuff and I hate the crunch, crunch noise it makes.

The weather seems to be weird all over. A friend that lives about an hour and a half north of me had snow flurries. This in Florida.
I know we didn't have the snow but this morning it was in the twenties. To me that's cold and I don't envy anyone that had colder temperatures.

I live in Kansas City and today it was drizzly and cold.

Tomorrow, the expected high is around 60... in December. It makes NO sense to me. I just hope the weather is mild during the new year's celebration time. I'm supposed to visit a friend about 70 miles away, and Friday they're saying we might have freezing rain... :uhoh

Freezing rain--the worst.
Kim got all our snow: here in the western edge of Fairfax County, we received literally millimeters, which quickly blew away. On the far side of the Chesapeake Bay, normally far milder than us, they got a wind-driven 8 or so inches.
Today is expected to be around 35* F, I think. :???:

No snow here in Toronto.

Say what? How come the U.S. is getting it all? Bloody climate change.

The rain finally stopped here: 7 straight days and nights of it, followed by 4 days of sunshine, and more rain Tuesday night and all day Wednesday. Today we have very high winds. Just waiting for the snow. :uhoh It could happen, ya know.

We're getting insanely high winds here, all over the state in fact. Our forecast is for high temps and rain for the next day or two.

Very very weird, but you know, after last year's miserable blizzardlike conditions, I'm perfectly fine with some rain and wind, as long as I don't get blown around too much driving from place to place.

After a very, very hot summer I was looking forward to some cooler weather. HA! Not the arctic cold that we got.
Just can't make me happy.

I'm down with some winter, but we don't usually get it, and so much of it, so danged early!

Yesterday was not such a great day in the Midwest, I'm sure there's been something on the news, at least in the US, about the two tornadoes. Luckily for me they were way south in Arkansas and across the state in St. Louis, but that's still way too close and such a weird time.

Now it's just back to cold cold cold and I'm planning on enjoying my night indoors. Doing what, I have no idea, but at least I won't get blown off the map.
