Thanks, Helen. I haven't started this yet...
Re: Kate Atkinson Big Sky audio book read by Jason
I read one review of this new book where they posted a nice clip of Jason as Jackson from the TV series alongside it - even though they did not mention that he reads the audio version. Maybe the editor just likes Jason (the reviewer does, she mentioned his TV series).

I’ve started this now. Like it so far. thanks for posting the reviews, Helen

And. Still another good review: The narrator Jason Isaacs, who played Jackson Brodie on the television adaptation of Atkinson’s books, is well established as the voice of Brodie. He adapts his warm, rounded baritone tellingly when urgency is required.
Ditto!!

The good reviews just keep on coming.
We haven’t heard from this hard-luck case in more than a decade, although a version of him showed up — played by Jason Isaacs, often missing his shirt — in the BBC television series “Case Histories” in 2011. wink
The plot of “Big Sky” is something of a ramshackle affair, but it hardly matters. Her Jackson Brodie novels are both more than crime novels — and less. They are sui generis* and they, like this one, are enormously enjoyable.

*As for sui generis, thinking it was French, I checked Babelfish and got nothing. It may be Latin, which I'm guessing means very generic (???)
If anyone else wants to take a shot at the translation, please go for it.

Thanks for the reminder to go order this!!!
Helen, "sui generis" is Latin; it means "constituting the only one of its kind," making up a separate genus, if you will.

Thank you, Miss Hils! I was only guessing at the meaning. I know Greek not Latin, except for the songs we sang in the glee club that were in Latin.
"The only one of its kind" is spot on. I love a challenge that makes me look things up. Alas, I hit a wall, which you broke through with aplomb.

I ordered the download, rather than the physical CDs (it was waaaay cheaper! ) and listened to it on the plane. Excellent entertainment--I love listening to him switching back and forth, and his explosive Northern-accented profanity
