Focused and sparse performances from Damon, Kinnear, Gleeson, Abdalla and Scouse thespian Jason Issacs (as a murderous officer) all helps too.
Hmm. Wonder if his character survives?

in my opinion, unfortunately, I don't think Major Briggs survives....
although, I could be totally wrong...this movie has gone thru a number
of reshoots and editing

Because Jason is from Liverpool, he is called a Liverpudlian and a scouser which I believe is a slang expression, so they are calling him a "Scouse thespian."

May I recommend the excellent http://www.peevish.co.uk/slang/s.htm?

(I love this definition: "Scanties: Noun. Female underwear. From their often exiguous nature.")

I'd love to read the whole book. I read quite a few English mysteries and I see words there that I didn't know the English meanings of.

Scouse Adj. Of, or, from Liverpool. Derived from the name of a local stew, an abb. of lobscouse.
Scouser Noun. A person from Liverpool, a Liverpudlian. See 'scouse'.
I just added a new word to my vocabulary :wheee

This guy didn't like the movie but was impressed with Jason.
there's a handful of decent set pieces, mostly involving the legend that is Jason Isaacs as Major Briggs, sporting the bravest horseshoe moustache since the original Village People line-up split.

For some reason I don't think Jasons character is killed. No basis for this thought but I think he'll just fade away.
