I was wondering if the series itself would film in Chicago. Well, I guess not.

The above article states that "only Ride-Along will be based in Chicago full time"

Sounds like PG would possibly go back and forth between Chicago and LA depending on locations of the scenes.
I know other series would go to Chicago only a couple of times a year for outdoor shots. They use file videos to give the impression of being there as fillers.

Sort of what they do for CSI. Shot in LA, but with video of Las Vegas to give a sense of place.

Same thing with CSI Miami - lots of shows do that.

Kate had heard that if the pilot was picked up, that the series would
be filming in LA, NOT Chicago....

Oh, ok (sorry, didn't read the whole article)

It doesn't surprise me really- a lot of TV series are shot in LA!

Oh it's a lot more involved than that. Green screen technology means the actors can be dropped in to any location right there on set. For instance, check out these clips from some of your favorite TV shows ...

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jKZio1NA15I&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jKZio1NA15I&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
