Jason Isaacs is slated (mystifyingly) to portray Taylor Lautner's father in this suspense thriller.

As I understand it they waited with the press screenings, which means there are just bloggers publicizing their reviews now. The marketing department should really reconsider this, because regular movie critics are a bit more considerate in criticizing young actors performances... I'm not a fan of TL, but... I feel sorry for him. Some the bloggers are having a rant party, and it's not constructive criticism to say the least. And the comments underneath the reviews are even nastier.

I finally found two that I thought wasn't too nasty (They both think the movie is bad, but they are a bit more constructive):

but make no mistake, this is one of the worst movies of the year.
...and now I'm not sure if I will see it in theaters or wait for it to come out on DVD, it depends on the reviews.

Sounds Bad, Bad, Bad. Looking forward to review in my local paper.
May pass this by even though I would like to see Jason.
Maybe I'll see the start and then leave.

I'm with you, gb. If the story's bad, I'll stay for Jason's scenes, then leave. I will have seen what I went to see.

It's a pity. The trailer showed some promise, but you can't do anything without a good script. And, as one review says, putting an embargo on reviews always puts the critics in a bad mood and never results in favourable reviews.

(I'll be interested in what Mark Kermode has to say - given that he's both a Twilight and Jason fan.)

It's on 0% on Rotten Tomatoes so far. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/abduction_2011/

I kinda knew what way it went when I saw the trailer. It's never a good sign when the trailer makes me laugh out loud three times in the wrong places... I decided long ago to wait for the DVD.

Now, that's bad news.

Should I save my money or just go to see the start so I can see Jason?

Will he forgive me if I don't go? Heck! He'll never know.

Oh dear :uhoh

Well, at least JI's lawn-mower-bashing gets some respect . . . :-|

Edited to insert this comic observation re TL:
"But when it comes to exchanges of dialogue, displays of emotion or just standing around, he’s stiff and manifestly uncomfortable — this may be the first film I’ve ever seen where, when an actor goes to put his hand thoughtfully on his chin, it’s so awkward I became afraid he’d somehow miss and poke himself in the eye." I went and saw Abduction today, and you know what? It wasn't terrible.

On the Jason front: he gets a decent-ish amount of screen time. I'd say about maybe 15-20 minutes to a half hour or more total (and considering the movie is just over an hour and a half long its not bad). The "fight" scene between him and Taylor is good, some comic relief in there. After he's out, it moves pretty fast. There is a scene later on where you hear his voice and get a quick glimpse of him as well.

Overall, if you can avoid the Taylor fangirls (I went to the first showing this morning) it would probably be worth it.

Good to know- I have decided to go tomorrow, I'm going to the first showing of the day because I want to avoid lines (and the annoying Taylor fangirls LOL).
I'll give you my opinion after I see it.

I am feeling some remorse for posting that--Mr. Lautner may be a millionaire and all, but I'm sure it's still not easy to read that kind of gleeful abuse. Several reviews suggested that TL is probably capable of doing rewarding work, but this is too much, too early.
Anyway--sorry, kid.
