Based on the popular and critically acclaimed novels by Kate Atkinson, this mini-series was shot on location in Edinburgh and was quickly followed by a second season.

Yes, but it's generally passed via water & needs some specific conditions in which to live- so as long as Himself avoids things like suspicious hottubs, dirty air conditioners, water tanks, (& other similiar things where nasty LD amoebae-y things could live) and still waters at certain temps in which it likes to incubates he should be ok. So perhaps we should really be telling the director not to dunk him in any water!

So LL, it sounds like you would require a travelling companion to Scotland. And I really wouldn't want you to do anything I wouldn't do, so perhaps I should escort you? Bwhahahahaha!

I wouldn't worry about Legionnaire's Disease now. He should be fine. Back in 1976, DH and I traveled to Philadelphia during that outbreak and we're still here . . . like it or not!! :razz

Suspicious hot tubs?? We looked at a house with a hot tub once. I did wonder even then - it was carrying a red carnation and holding a copy of The Times.

Sorry. That was just ...

Sorry. :bag:

Anyway, you have just mentioned Mr I and hot tubs in the same sentence so there goes any further coherent thought for the day.

As for a travelling companion to Edinburgh ... I'll probably have one or both of my kids with me, but why not? The more the merrier! You pay the fare across the Atlantic, and I'll pay the fare from here to Edinburgh.

Did it sidle up to you and say something like, "Hey, angel, are you okay? 'Cause you just fell from heaven into my heart"?, because that would have been very suspicious (and rather creepy).

Really? Hmm...tempting...very tempting... I will have to see if there is any of my research material lurking in any Scottish museums there to logically justify it - not that...errr... it would need logical realistic justification...okay, maybe a little "two birds, one stone" sort of thing. Hmm... (*taps fingers together in a Mr. Burns-like manner*).

And now we know for sure that we get more Jackson! :woot
(*whispers* The only problem with Jackson is that he is so perfect that he's spoiled me and I find myself comparing my dates to him! le sigh.)

No, but it did say, looking me up and down with sufficiently suspicious slimy creepiness (if it's possible to be slimy and creepy at the same time), 'Is it just me, or did it just get real hot in here?'

And I said, 'It's just you. You're a fucking hot tub.'

OK. Stop now. It's all getting terribly silly. And rather surreal.

As for more Jackson ...

:wheee :wheee :wheee :woot :woot :woot :wheee :wheee :wheee :adore :adore :adore :D :D :D :adore :woot :adore :woot :wheee :wheee :adore :woot

Pleased muchly.

PS Good luck with your quest for Jackson-like men. I mean really good luck. Over here, of course, we have whole pubs filled with country music-loving Yorkshiremen private detectives with a propensity for helping random strangers, but over there ... not so sure.

I think I would've said, "Hot tub, baby, you can't handle me-I'm so hot- I'd make you boil over." *winks & saunters away*

Hmm... Rugged, handsome Yorkshire men with hearts of gold & stunning eyes...*runs off, runs back with packed bags*
Ok, BA tix from PHL to LHR 7ish pm- check! :cherub

Yay, Jackson! :woot

In all seriousness, I hope that she'll be publishing the new stories- I'm greedy- I want Himself to read more audio books as Jackson. He has a beautiful reading voice. I guess one of them will be Started Early.

He said in the email new series, didn't he?

I thought when more CH was mooted originally that it was only going to be another two-parter. A series is longer than that. Oh yes. This is getting better and better.

Maybe Kate Atkinson will write the new scripts once they've done Started Early. I don't see how she can publish a novel after it has already been filmed, if that makes sense. :scratch I suppose it's possible but I'm not sure how it would work.

No, you're totally right. I have no idea why I said that about her writing new books after the new series. My only excuse is that I typed it from my iphone on a 7am bus speeding towards NYC after having dashed like a mad woman to the bus without any coffee and had basically just stuck myself in the eye with my eyeliner (which I was putting on while on the bus). About 4 hours later, & after 4.5 cups of coffee, while staring at predynastic Egyptian art, my brain kicked into gear, & I thought: "OMG, what was I thinking when I typed that?? Idiot!" (*palm -forehead*)

Maybe they will have her write the scripts. Did she adapt them last time? The story lines, however, were changed significantly from the books to the shows- so...???? Or maybe Jason locked her away in a room somewhere to make her write more Jackson books... Lol.

She said in one of the interviews with JI that she had started to think of plots that would work for TV and plots that would work for books, and that they weren't the same.
The scripts from the first season wasn't written by her. I think Ashley Pharoah wrote some of them.

From what I read somewhere long time ago (so don't ask me for the link...), they said it would be 2 episodes of 90 minutes each. And that Started Early, Took My Dog would be one of them. But they can have changed their mind. :???:

That sounds familiar to me Thunder.

I wonder how much input Kate will have regarding the second one. Like most of us (I believe we've discussed this?) I think the novels, which I really enjoyed, were not easily adaptable, and I think that is a compliment. I've read so many crime/detective novels that seem as though they were written for the screen, or at least, written with the hope of getting a tv gig. I would happy to see a Jackson "story" written specifically for tv as long it retains the essence of the character.

The last series, as we know, consisted of three separate stories, each two 90-minute eps each. Initially, it was announced by the BBC (I think) that they would be making another one story (two eps). But that does not constitute a series. Perhaps one silver lining of Awake being cancelled is that Mr I has more time on his hands to film more CH and the Beeb are going to act accordingly. Still a mystery where the scripts will come from though. Yes, it was Ashley Pharaoh (who wrote Life on Mars) who wrote the scripts. Perhaps he'll work with Kate Atkinson to get some written originally for TV. That would be fantastic, as it was a little stodgy at times getting the style of the books to meld well into a TV format.

I feel a little bittersweet in encouraging them to write scripts without novels - this is purely because I'm a selfish, greedy wench who loves well-written books. When you find an author who has a well-written, full-bodied storyline, which you love, you don't really want to give it up - even for the BBC. Since I know that at least one of you (*cough* LL) loves words like me, I think that you might know what I mean. And yes, one show (Started early...) does not a series make - so let's hope that Himself's freedom from Awake has encouraged more JB episodes. If Pharoah gets the gig again, then maybe we should be in for a good ride (*she says hopefully*).

I love Case Histories and I am hoping that Jason will film more of this series. Good writing and mostly - Jason portrays the main character and so there will be more Jason on screen :!:

Keeping fingers, toes and eyes crossed!!!!

I just read on tumblr that Amanda Abbington did supposedly confirm to someone on Twitter very recently that they’ll be filming series 2 in August. I wasn't aware she had a tumblr, I don't really follow celebrities so I'm sure I've missed quite a lot.

EDIT:
ORIGINAL TWEET: @amandaabbington *skids in* Any idea when/if we'll get more "Case Histories"?
HER REPLY: @Meanderthal42 Start filming in August. xxx

NOW @amandaabbington isn't verified so there really is no way of knowing if its actually her, unless we have a way to confirm :scratch
