Deadly combination!
I guess most folks in the US know that the much-maligned Southern accent(s) and there are more than one! Come from a long-ago combination of British accents, such as the nasal drawl here in low-country South Carolina, which is from a mix of about 75 percent low country Scot mixed with Irish of various parts such as North Irish which already had an admixture of Low country Scot, plus various other English island varieties. and the famed "Hillbilly" accent from all along the Blue Ridge Mountains is primarily Scot, lowland and highland. So maybe lots of the Southern dialects are just about the same mixture as Liverpudlian--we all speak a form of Scouse! Hurrah!
