Palin to Resign as Governor of Alaska

Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska announced Friday that she would step down by the end of the month and not seek a second term as governor, fueling speculation that she is trying to position herself as a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

The downside, of course, is that she'll be second only to Michael Jackson for All News, All the Time, ad nauseum.

She seemed to be rambling on and on during her announcement. Can we team her up with Sanford? He also rambles.

Good riddance.

Perhaps Sandford will follow suit.

Rumor has it (Whoopi on The View) that she has a multimillion-dollar book offer but can't accept it while she's gov. Apparently, she's racked up quite a big debt since first coming to the national stage.

. . . much of it stemming from legal fees arising from charges of unethical behaviour while in office . . .

Hey, if someone offered me a multi-million dollar book deal I'd quit my job too. But hey, I'm just a college Prof. with a non-contract, I'm not governor of Alaska, which I think comes with a 4 year contract from 'the people'.

And "the people" in the other 49 states aren't going to want a presidential candidate who quits her job for . . . whatever reason she's giving today.

Electoral-vote.com raises some interesting questions:

But if she is resigning for the purpose of gearing up for 2012 already, she will take a lot of heat for it, starting with questions like:

- If governing Alaska was too tough for you, how will you run the whole country?
- If you are elected President, how do we know you won't quit when you learn where the buck stops?
- Why do you think 2 1/2 years as governor of an empty state qualifies you to be President?

David Letterman's been having a field day with Sarah Bailin' since the resignation.

Top-Ten Messages left on Sarah Palin's Answering Machine:

10. "Hi, It's George W. Bush. Why didn't anyone tell me resigning was an option?"
9. "It's John McCain—why did I call?"
8. "Mark Sanford here. Ever been to Argentina?"
7. "I'm calling from Geico to see if you want to renew your dogsled insurance"
6. "It's Letterman—we still cool?"
5. "McCain again. Still no idea why I called"
4. "Hi, it's the dry cleaner. Having trouble getting caribou blood out of your Prada jacket"
3. "Hi, it's Sarah...oops...dialed my own number"
2. "Schwarzenegger here. If you want a job, California could use a new governor"
1. "Hey, it's McCain. Who would've thought you'd retire before I did?"
