That 'orb' is the vessel that holds the famed prophecy concerning Voldemort and Harry. Heaven only knows why Lucius is holding it, because in the book he never gets his evil little mits on the thing. The whole point is that they need Harry to go to the ministry to collect the prophecy and then steal it from him so that Voldie can hear the full prophecy. Up until then he had only heard it in part. In the book the prophecy breaks and only Harry hears it. In the film I hear they have written it differently.
So the orb is not physically dangerous - although some are! It is rather the knowledge it contains that is dangerous.
Does our boy look luscious in that pic or what!

Thanks again Char!
WOW! that image of Lucius is the best in my collection! thanks over and over for putting all these where I can find them. Love your work as always!
I just love his profile and the elegant way he's holding that orb...
It could be that the way they've written it for the movie is that Lucius finally does get his hands on the orb and does the whole "Yesss! Mine! Mine!" like Gollum at the end of Return of the King, only for Dumbledore to come and be a complete badass, terrifying Lucius and causing him to drop the orb. More reason for Voldemort to be furious at him too. Also a chance to see some great expressions of terror from Jason if that was the case. :) Hey, if I was the screenplay writer that's how I'd do it!
