'Best Moment in Movie History'

Post by Helen8 » Sun Apr 12, 2009 10:49 am

First Harry Potter film scene voted 'Best Moment in Movie History'

It shows the boy wizard discovering platform nine-and-three-quarters at Kings Cross train station in London before setting off for Hogwarts school for the first time.

See now, I would have picked the scene at the remote island cabin after Hagrid breaks down the door and says, "You're a wizard, Harry!" That's the turning point in the movie as well as in his life. From then on he goes from a slave to his aunt and uncle to the life he should have led.

What do you all think is the best moment in movie history from Sorcerer's Stone?

The potions class. Alan was just brilliant and used the dark class-room like his own living room. He had this sense of 'I own you for the next seven years' (not a bad idea really, as long as I can visit Malfoy Manor from time to time)
Plus the victimizing and the sheer coldness. Harry realizes there and then that not everyone is going love him in the wizarding world. And the scene rounds off, not sure if everyone has seen this but the, "A point will be taken for your class-mate's cheek." Just spells out control, hiarachy. A slight arrogance too.

What do you expect? I can't fit Lucius into this one, so it had to be the potions scene. But I'll admit were special effects are concerned, Quiddich was pretty good too.

I think Malfoygrandma just think it's crazy that the Platform 9 and 3/4 moment is voted the biggest in movie history - and I must say I agree.

It's a good moment though, but the best in all movie history? I don't think so...
Or was the vote about Harry Potter films only?

I think it's about HP films only, but I can be wrong...?

Actually, it's all films.

The list also features Dick Van Dyke's classic rooftop chimney sweep's dance in 1964 musical 'Mary Poppins'

I have two: The flying over the Thames scene , and the wand battle scene.
The special F/X is superb...I can't believe they are overlooked for Oscars and whatnot.

I wonder when this is all over if Jason will be able to keep the wig?
He seems rather attached to it.

I do recall one interview Jason sat on a chair, supporting his short brown hair, looking rather astonished. "Wig? How do you know it's not my real hair?"
Then again I do have friends who were convinced it was his real hair and tried to tell me that it was also.
Shortest best line ever, has to be when Lucius is trying to get the prophesy, and the face and the tone as he speaks the works:
"I know."
Made me speechless. My jaw hit the cinema floor and I fell in love. :adore ...."Oh I gave my heart to him in sweet surrender! I'll always remember, I'll always remember. It was a night, oh what a night oh it really was such a night!"

Well, it darn well should feature that scene, now, shouldn't it.
