Sanctuary opens for owls dumped by Harry Potter fans

The Potter phenomenon has been blamed for a surge in the number of people buying owls, emulating the young magician who keeps a snowy owl called Hedwig as a pet.

Now an animal sanctuary has opened on the Isle of Wight to help cope with the problem of owls dumped by owners who can no-longer care for them properly.

It's like when the movie 101 Dalmatians was released and people rushed to buy the breed not realizing the character traits of the dogs.
Henceforth the dogs were not wanted after awhile and put in shelters when new homes could not be found for them.

Unfortunately now, owls are the abused animals du jour.

I remember the uproar it caused at first when parents started buying owls for their kids. Surely it would be more responsible to point out its fiction and it isn't really in an owl's nature to carry the post or be a pet?
