Saw two consecutive sessions of Deathly Hallows Part 1 today.

First off, I was surprised the cinema wasn't packed as it generally is for a Harry Potter movie. It was only about 2/3 full.

As to the movie, it's great. It follows on from OotP and HBP in being darker and edgier. The movie follows the storyline pretty well.

Loved the bleakness and washed out colours. It really suited the mood of the piece.

Great to see Snape again (although he is only in the one scene at the beginning) but we expect that.

At least we see more of Lucius. He is indeed as Jason has described him. A broken man. Quite dishevelled and unkempt. He certainly has lost his pride in himself, albeit in one scene in Malfoy Manor, we get a small glimpse of his Malfoy superiority, but it doesn't last long.

The movie finished exactly where I thought it would. Loved Dobby. Nice to see him back again.

I especially liked the animation used to illustrate the tale of the Three Brothers from Beedle the Bard.

Going to see it again tomorrow. You can NEVER have enough Lucius!

Hooroo,
Carole

From the Guardian

I have only scanned this (so far) for two reasons:

1. I am at work
2. It has a snarky tone.

Of particular note:
....and encountering one new British character actor in the gallery of familiar British character actors on the teaching staff – all of which had become a tiring tradition in the opening 20 minutes of a
Seeing the new cast members is always part of the fun for me.

Recenty l've been watching a mini called "Our Friends in the North". One of the actors is the guy who plays "Filch" in the HP movies. I thought "Hey, I'll start a 'Harry Potter actors in other projects' thread, just as we have for Brotherhood."
Then I realised how stupid, and time consuming, that would be. :D

It would get pretty comprehensive, wouldn't it, fruitbat??
Maybe you should start a website!

Funny you should mention fruitbat but on Film 2010 on BBC1 last night they referred to the movies as work for any Brittish actor with an equity card, when you think about it, with all the extras and regular cast members the movies have employed Harry Potter is almost an industry in itself.

From the Guardian review. :lol :lol

The film begins with an entertaining "conference of evil" chaired by the nasally-challenged Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), discussing how and where to snatch our hero, in which Voldemort's scornful gaze alights on the uneasy Lucius Malfoy (Jason Isaacs), depriving him of his wand, making this implement's Freudian implications more obvious than ever: later Hermione (Emma Watson) damages Harry's and he crossly asks to use hers. Voldemort does everything but press a Dr Evil-style button for Lucius to fall through an open trapdoor.
