I was thinking about the fact that a Death Eater was in charge of the Ministry, and that Dolores Umbridge, once again, was under him in authority.

Makes me wonder if she's not a Death Eater herself.

Noo, she's definately not. She's accepted as a pureblood after she bought the necklace of Slytherin from Mundungus. (She is half-blood if I remember correctly)

I don't know if any of you have seen Behind the magic? It was on ITV last week, it was introduced by Ben Sheppard and it is on the ITV player. Anyway, Imelda who plays Dolores said Dolores is a loyal Ministery Of Magic Employee who supports Voldemorts pure blood policies.

I hate those Harry-Potter-geeky moments. They're scary. And embarrassing. Am way too old for this.

Okay, now that the disclaimer's out of the way, am under the impression that to be a Death Eater is to be one of Voldemort's closest followers, disciples, if you will. Not everyone who supports Voldemort or works in his 'agencies' is necessarily a Death Eater.

For example, Fenrir Greyback is definitely a follower, and he's definitely a dark wizard along with being a werewolf, but he's *not* a Death Eater, and he doesn't have the Dark Mark.

And I'm not clear that Pius Thicknesse was a Death Eater. In the book it's made very clear that he is put under the Imperius curse by Death Eaters, which is a curse that compels you to do whatever the spell caster wants. Like, oh, say, be the puppet ruler of a government while following all commands of a Very Dark Wizard.

So just because she's vicious and evil and all that good nasty stuff, that doesn't make Umbridge a Death Eater.
