It's surprising how few nominations HP has received over the years. Could this be because it's a film produced in England and staring mainly British actors? Most nominated films are American films. Hmmmmmmmm.

And it also has to do with the fact that the franchise has made mega-millions over the years. The Academy usually bipasses those films. Bad bias.

I like Harry Potter, but to be honest... The movies haven't actually been THAT good. aaa.gif I don't think it has anything to do with it being a British film. British films have won in the past. And most of the times, it's very well known box office successes that wins (doesn't mean that they are bad, though...).

Maybe if Warner Bros decides to "lobby" it for the next year awards. Oscars is a lot about "politics"... So let's hope for a supporting actor nomination next year, right? If we wish hard enough, maybe it will happen :D

I've always thought HP should win awards in filming, editing, effects, et al.....but they don't even get a mention. Must be the M.O.M. covering up something. :stirrer

Maybe they're waiting for the final installment. I'm thinking they did that with LOTR. I mean, it makes no sense to just keep nominating the same thing over and over if it is a series and therefore one very large movie, in a sense. It might not be cut that way, but it really is.

Perhaps you're right Sara.
In all honesty, I don't know the criteria for determining if a film is eligible to be nominated for an academy award.

Eh, well, it really makes no sense... I mean, I saw an article about a week ago commenting on how all the best actor nominees are basically white, and how there are no women or minority directors nominated, and it's just makes my head hurt. I thought it was about quality in filmmaking, not hitting quotas.
I don't honestly think there will ever be a year where people are satisfied with their picks for best of anything, and honestly, the only reason I'm even watching this year is for Colin. If he wasn't nominated, I wouldn't even tune in.

I believe a woman director won last year.
