I can't bear to watch musicals anymore! :-(

Post by marilaine » Wed Jun 18, 2008 4:28 pm

I can't watch any more musicals, y'all.
Last weekend or so, when 'Hairspray' debuted on HBO, I dreamed I was auditioning for 'Sound of Music', then, 'West Side Story' (or something), and then, I dreamed (get this!) The 'Tudors' was a musical.
Henry VIII was singing and dancing with his servants about getting rid of Ann Bolyn  , and to top it all off, he had a wooden leg he was wielding around like a machine gun. (I guess that cancels out me purchasing 'Grindhouse', huh?)
GO FIGURE!
I don't know.....maybe it's just me. But, I highly doubt it! ~marilaine :loco

That sounds like it totally should be a musical! When I think of the story of Henry VIII, it's just aching to be a musical...

I agree. Beheadings to music. Can a Tony be far behind?

"In the tower of London, large as life, the ghost of Anne Bolyn walks, they declare.
Poor Anne Bolyn was once King Henry's wife until he made the headsman bob her hair.
Ah, yes, he did her wrong long years ago
and she comes up at night to tell him so,
Chorus:
With her head tucked underneath her arm she walks the bloody tower,
With her head tucked underneath her arm at the midnight hour . . . "

[Henry's soldiers sing these words in a chorus line on a long wooden table whilst doing kicks.]

I just read that the song was written by R.P.Weston & Bert Lee in 1934.
It's pretty amusing though.

In The Tall Guy

Post by malfoygrandma » Sun Jun 22, 2008 11:11 am

 Long ago I used to do lots of musicals, like playing Bloody Mary, and Sister Bertha, the mother of Marion the Librarian, Morgan La Fey iand a whole bunch of stuff! My long-suffering husband always sat smiling and applauding, and then afterward, when we were alone, he always reminded me of how much he just could not STAND musicals! Well, he finally saw "THe Tall Guy" in which Jason flitted through in a surgical mask. But that production of Elephant Man, the Musical, just about gave him a heart attack, he laughed so hard. Even watched it twice. That is onIe of the most hilarious musicals ever invented! Even if Jason was't in it! Partly because I did the stage set for a University production of Elephant man in a rolling repertory, and he had seen it far too many times!

I did musicals and plays in school (grade, then high school, Senior year only) and my fave was 'Robin Hood'.....one of my classmates was 'Prince John', and 'Sir Hiss' was a sock puppet she used to do the talking for, making her s' like hissing. (It was Catholic school, after all)
But, my fave play was 'The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling'. One-Act for UIL. I played 'Miss Western' and even had a pillow for a bustle.
WHAT A HOOT!     ~marilaine
P.S. Don't even mention the petticoat.

That's not how it really went down?

Huh. I thought I read somewhere that's how Henry rolled back in the day.
