There are many variations on the fruitbat; more than I care to think about as bats kind of give me the creeps.
Kind of an odd choice for an avatar then.
So what gives? Why that instead of, say ... kittens or puppies or rainbows or something?

I think fruitbats are utterly adorable.
Other than the freaky little ones who go humping across the ground on their tiny phalanx bones (?) in search of blood, I think they all cute.

Neat! I think it's great we all have individual interests. We learn so much from each other.

Fruitbats are existential to the repollination of fruit seeds.

"Fruitbat" is a term my friend and I call each other. With great affection, I must add.

Um, yeah: I'm the other kind.

I'm a puffin (or "puff") in the Richard Armitage world. (Hi soule :yip )
Here is my avie.

(I decided on a different name for a different fandom, though I don't know why. An RA-world friend asked if I was the "puff" on a Sean Bean board. I said no, then quickly went to the site to make sure I hadn't registered to look at some photos. It wasn't me.)

Ok, my avie isn't that big on the other board.

Puffins are kinda cute. Kind of a cross between a penguin and a toucan with a shorter beak. Awwwwwwwww! I'm gushing.

My last word on the "fruitbat" name.

I mentioned to the friend who calls me fruitbat that I had chosen it as my name for this board.
She reminded me that the name came from the aboriginal name generator I found on the website for the CBC's Dead Dog Cafe Radio show. I was Diane Alarming Fruitbat.

I remember the Dead Dog Cafe Radio Show!! Co-worker was (and still is, actually) a big fan of the CBC, and seeing how she owned the radio we had in the art department, that was pretty much the only station we ever listened to.

I could take it or leave it myself. I found it a bit anal and pretentious at times.

*but don't tell her that* :D
