Yeah Tavington wanted to win the war at all costs and he had a reason to want it. But I don't think he did what he did for a higher power. He was more guided by a selfish interest...in exchange for winning and capturing the ghost, he would receive a part of the land of Ohio (he had nothing to go back to in England, let's not forget that Tavvy's father squandered his life). So he took the war to a personal level.They're both self-righteous, always thinking they're doing good for a "higher power".
