An article in http://www.jewishtelegraph.com/ states that he's "due to appear in BBC1's Dr Who playing The Captain," but then it also says he's married to some woman called Emma Baldwin, so take it with a grain of kosher salt . . . :-|

It's possible that it's going to be a regular episode for next season. Or last year they did an Easter special, so it could be a special for a different time of year. I just really really want this to be true!!

It's gone from his filmography on IMDB now... It was probably just a rumor.
(But that doesn't mean it can never happen)

I just thought I'd revisit this thread with an update. It does appear that the next season of Dr Who will include a 'Pirate Planet' episode, but the role of 'The Captain' will be played by Hugh Bonneville -

Which seems sensible, other people do need the opportunity to play a pirate captain!
