Variety isn't over-impressed, but likes Jason:
Yet the couple are almost comically willing to allow their helpful new friends (a well-cast Jason Isaacs, in full snake-charming Hogwarts mode, and Carole Bouquet) to insinuate themselves into every part of their lives, from gifting them a weird cat to supplying a strange pendant to providing the green slop Rosemary is urged to drink throughout her pregnancy.

For a Variety review, I don't think this is too bad... but it's not very positive.
What I gathered is that he thinks the story meets some obstacles being transferred to a more modern setting, I.e.modern technology and gender roles etc. It's making some of it hard to buy, even if the story is supernatural to begin with.

EDIT: Hitfix has got two guys reviewing it. One is more positive than the other, but he is also quite critical. the little they said about Jason was rather positive.

Not very positive... but say the actors are good.

Unfortunately, it sounds repetitive with reviewers: "I don't like __________(insert word: writing, enough horror, humor, whatever...), but Jason Isaacs was great". Jason is an incredibly gifted talent, I think he sees things differently and will grab a role based on what HE feels and reads into a part, and is more than capable of elevating his part, and sometimes the entire project. It's always interesting to hear what he has to say (see his interview) about WHY he took the role, what about it grabbed him, then it can be so much more fun watching where HIS focus is! ~ellen

Another two. It's getting repetitive...

Didn't like it much:

At least this reviewer likes Jason's performance:
There are redeeming notes, especially Isaacs’ refined malice

Looks like most of them think the first half is dragging, but that it takes up a bit ion the second half. And everyone likes Jason :D

She is a big JI fan!
- Reason #1: Jason Isaacs, Jason Isaacs, Jason Isaacs, Jason Isaacs, Jason Isaacs
No, I'm not suggesting Jason Isaacs is the ONLY reason to watch "Rosemary's Baby," but he's certainly the MAIN reason. If you saw any episodes of NBC's short-lived "Awake," you already know how versatile and magnetic Isaacs is, and he really shines as the manipulative yet ultra charismatic Roman Castevet. My only complaint is that he could have had a bit more screen time, but he's returning to TV this fall in USA Network's six-episode event series “Dig” so at least we have that to look forward to.

I know this is ages after the show was aired in the USA, but I have finally seen it courtesy of the lovely Carole, so would like to add a comment.

I found it an interesting reinterpretation of the story, and am almost minded to watch the original Mia Farrow version again to see what the differences were, as it's many years since I last saw it.

I have to agree with the paid reviewers that Jason was great in this. He was suitably creepy and insincere, manipulating Guy so subtly at first, then offering him veiled threats when he looked like thinking for himself. I'm sure he had great fun making it, especially in beautiful Paris. And Rosemary dreamed about him too...

Zoe Saldana was very good, but I think Carole Bouquet deserves a special mention for her equally-great-as-Jason performance. Her manipulation was far more subtle than Roman's, with her pretended sympathy and care for Rosemary.

I agree with everything you mentioned, Servalan. Jason definitely makes sinister enticing.
