Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
I'm going in tomorrow for an operation for Carpal Tunnel on my right hand.
Have any of you ladies had that operation? Can any of you give me info on the recovery process? The Doctor talked to me on it but I'd like some first hand info. Thanks[/i]

My dear Hubby had it a few years ago ....after some healing time he had to have some therapy for about 4-6 weeks or so....but everyone is different in the amount of time this might take. He was able to eventually go about his normal activities as he is a woodworker.
I wish you the best for a quick and easy time....take care and good thoughts are coming your way.
Hugs,
Kate

Never had it done myself and only assisted at a few open procedures when I was a student/intern. The recovery depends a little on whether the surgeon is using an open or endoscopic approach.
There are some very useful websites discussing aftercare and recovery including youtube clips!

Sorry - it may be too late for you to do any surfing pre-op.
It's important to keep your hand raised as much as possible for the first few days. Oh and avoid any moisture (eg wear rubber gloves if you're exposed to water but not for too long). Avoid heavy lifting for as long as the doctor advises. And if your fingers turn blue - loosen the bandage!
Have a speedy recovery.

The only advice I have is not to underestimate your recovery! A girl at work had the surgery last year and she only put herself down for two days off and she was gone the whole week! She completely underestimated the amount of painkillers she would need to take for a few days. She did recover just fine, but had to have the same surgery on the other hand just months later. Unfortunately it comes with the territory of being an IT person.
I hope the surgery went well!

Thanks everyone for your best wishes and concern. (we'll see how typing goes with left hand.)
Arrived at 8:10am and was done and leaving at 10:45am. I have on the biggest bandage I've ever seen. Like a boxing glove. Have to keep it on for 4 days and cannot use the hand for 2 weeks. Then theorpy etc. Will be quite a long process They also did work on some other nerves and steroid shots in all 5 fingers. (Steroid? and I'm not even a ball player) After all is done I go back for the left hand. Ugh..
Since this has taken me 15 minutes don't know how much I'll post but will be reading. Talk to you all soon.
