Christmas thread!!!

Post by fruitbat » Thu Dec 18, 2014 11:12 am

It might be a bit early but I am bored stiff at work so I thought I'd post this now.

Image

This year it's Anna and Elsa dolls for the niece, (from Frozen) and The Hardy Boys books for the nephew. My own special gift to myself was going to be an iPod speaker dock set (or whatever they are called), but my microwave died so it will have to be that instead.

And you, friends? What are your plans?

(Apologies if this is visually irritating to anyone. I've just rediscovered my photebucket account. Among my smilies, I came across this one for those who take more of an "Ah, humbug!" approach to Christmas. Image )

Probably not good for people who get seizures, but it is festive. :D

Finally got the holiday cards done last night. Since my handwriting, alas, is still illegible chicken scratch, DH had to write them. What fun! :whack If we'd both had root canals instead, it would have been more pleasant.

Got my Christmas gifts early (Black Friday) . . . from the Chico's Outlet near me. Had a 50% off $100 coupon, which helped. DH will get lotsa clothes from L.L. Bean (love/hate those $10 coupons you get when you spend $50). In the past, you had to wait till they came in the mail (Maine to SoCal took a while). Now they email them to you within 24 hours of purchase!! Clever capitalists!! Sucker Helen. : point Well, at least I get a great fashion show when hubby tries on all the clothes. :adore

Gift cards for the rest of my family and friends. Lack of imagination on my part, but I do ask which stores they want them from.

Happy Holidays, Ladies!! :wheee

Got a new fridge and dishwasher. Shows how much older I am - used to think why would anyone want to call that a gift!! Same as Helen - Black Friday deals!! Got Ken a bunch of clothes for his competition shooting and I actually won a rather expensive sighting scope at his office Christmas party. So I handed it to him and said Merry Christmas. All the prizes were rather shooting/outdoor related items! I really am happy - I had gotten a new iPhone 6 and a new iPad Air so I figured my Christmas came early. Any present that had to be mailed was a gift card. Mailing boxes is so expensive now - it's crazy.

Had three evening parties last week - three pot luck luncheons this week. I feel like porky the pig! Food Food Food... :gah:

Merry Christmas Happy stuffing!

After a moment of confusion during shopping I ended up buying double presents for a couple of people, so I'm half set for next Christmas as well. :dunce But I'm done with all the presents now. Bought some, and made some... Still have some cleaning and decorating left to do.

Got my self an iPhone 6 for Christmas, but I'm still waiting for a new SIM card, so haven't been able to use it yet. Hope it arrives before Christmas...

I'm planning on doing crafts with the kids this weekend, candy cane place card holders. Do you think I could find candy canes?

Nope. :-(

I like the little blinking lights! Happy Holidays everyone!

My Dad and stepmom are coming out from California for Christmas in the Northeast. In true Phila style, the temps will be all over the place, and, on Christmas Day, it's supposed to be 60 and thunderstorming. Last weekend, Best Friend and I did Christmas shopping (most are done! Yay, me!) and she helped me decorate my tree... I don't think that my stepmom has ever had a Christmas in the Northeast (I've done a few out there), so this will be fun. We're going to the historic tavern for Christmas Eve dinner, and then I'm cooking on Christmas Day (I needed a chance to use the good china. heh heh.) I'm also dragging them up to NYC to see the Tree at Rockefeller Center, to see the windows at Macys and walk up 5th Ave (which will also be a throwback to my childhood, so Dad should also get a kick out of it).

And...maybe this year, I'll actually get those holiday cards out the door and into the mail! aaa.gif

My sister and I made candy canes, lollies and bon bons from scratch yesterday... They look a bit "rustic" but taste very good (I still have a sugar rush).

The long-lost Hilary blowing in for a moment--thanks for spreading the cheer, fruitbat!
We're utterly bereft of snow here in the margins of the Great White North--November was hella cold, and we were resigned to a long frigid winter, but it's 38 and sprinkling now... I'd always made fun of people who put Christmas lights and decorations up right after Halloween, but up here, you have to seize the opportunity when it presents itself. I'm grateful to report that DH got lights up along the eaves without sustaining either fractures or frostbite!
Made a few gifts (knit hats which were graciously received and felted a 3" Schnauzer for a friend!) and bought some, and everything I got round to mailing has been received safely. *phew!*
Hope whatever you're celebrating is wonderful and all your recipients love their presents!
(Oh, and here's a Christmas wish for me: Char, please ask JI to insist on a guest role in the second season of the series Fargo (hey, Martin Freeman had a lead in season 1!) and then attend the premiere at the Fargo Theatre!!

Lady S, you just described every Christmas of my youth! It was always cold and windy, but once I saw the display windows along 5th Ave., I forgot the elements. Christmas Day, after opening presents, we went to Radio City Music Hall (one of the most beautiful theaters in the country) to see the Christmas show (with Rockettes) and a movie! Of course, we had to wait in a line (in the cold) that stretched around the block. But, again, once inside, the elements were forgotten.

Thanks for the memories rekindled.

So, Hilary, Jason takes requests now? Where's my list? :scratch

Waiting for my new Grandson, Vincent, who should be along any day now! Shopping is done, wrapping is completed, Christmas food is ready to cook......hoping we all don't spend Christmas in the maternity ward!
