The northern lights
It's slightly off topic here, but I just photograped the northern lights from my appartment. It's quite rare so see it where I live, so I hope the reason is not very dramatic. It's beautiful, none the less:

Re: The northern lights
I have always has a fascination with the Northern Lights. Those photographs are just wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
Re: The northern lights
Lucky you, Thunder. I hope to see them one day - maybe a Norwegian coastal cruise which friends of mine did. They saw the Northern Lights after they were on their way back south, and had thought they would miss them.
Occasionally they can be seen in parts of Scotland, but I have never seen them - usually further north. Round here there is a lot of light pollution too, which doesn't help.

Re: The northern lights
I have a Northern Lights Cruise scheduled in 2024. I really look forward to it. I’ve always wanted to see that. Going to the Antarctic on Nov 23rd. (Slowly getting that bucket list whittled down!)
Re: The northern lights
The Antarctic sounds amazing. You must be looking forward to it. I assume you fly somewhere first, then get the cruise ship?

Re: The northern lights
I am very excited. We fly to Houston (2.5 hr flight) then to Buenos Ares Argentina (10 hr flight) then stay overnight and take a private charter down to Ushuaia Argentina. Going to be a pretty brutal 2 days of travel. So I’m hoping for some incredible vistas. I’ve talked to a lot of people who have been and everyone of them thought it was incredible!
I must see penguins. My father was in the Navy and was stationed down there so I’ve always been curious. My Mom said he always told her the penguins were little pains in the backside. LOL

Re: The northern lights
Almost all cruise ships going to Antarctica go out of Ushuaia.
Re: The northern lights
No doubt you'll see penguins at the Penguin Post Office where tourists send their postcards with a hand frank from Antarctica.

Re: The northern lights
That post office sounds very cool. Unfortunately no mention of it was made on the Viking itinerary. Perhaps it will be a surprise!
Re: The northern lights
Thunder!! Your Northern Lights pix are great. The ones Rob took during our March cruise there were not that spectacular. And. You even managed to get the Big Dipper in there as well. Good going!!!
Marie, I'm not as brave as you to take on Antarctica. Norway was cold enough for me. That's why our next cruise is The Nile, in Nov. 2023—another Bucket List destination. Viking truly makes cruising very easy and addictive.

Re: The northern lights
The Nile trip, called Pharaohs and Pyramids, includes Cairo, Luxor and Giza. Can't wait.

Re: The northern lights
My parents are going to Egypt in March. They will go on a Nile cruise, but I don't think it's Viking.
It's the second time I see it this fall, looks like the Sun is more active now. It's beautiful, hope I will get to see it more.
