Gillian, I was thinking the same thing. So much for the New York Times reviewer. Although I haven't seen the movie, just all of Char's great clips, I can't understand why some critics say that Viggo is miscast. Unless, of course, they want him to play Aragon for the rest of his career. I thought, here, he was sensitive to Maurice, while depicting his ambivalence towards the Nazis. To me, he played it well.

Critics have lost the child in them... 'nuff said.

Ah, I don't judge a movie by what the critics say. Bla.
I like to have my own opinion.

I can't wait to see the movieee!! *cries*
I think I read somewhere that movie critics were "people who couldnt make it as actors"
That made me laugh.

There are two definitions of criticize:

1. to consider the merits and demerits of and judge accordingly : Evaluate
2. to find fault with : point out the faults of

Seems to me, the critics skip the first defn. and head straight for the second one.

Thank you for the lovely clip Char....always enjoy Jason!!

I always like to form my own opinion, I don't listen to the critics, I would rather form my own thoughts about performances....and I think you are right
Helen. They just love to find fault....so sad that quite a few movie goers will read these reviews and not bother to go see the film at all.

That's why I sought out Siskbert, and later Ebert and Roeper. They always found little independent gems that I would ordinarily not find in the mainstream press. Blockbusters are fine, but the slice-of-life small films are worth seeing.
