This is a TV series about a police officer after a fatal car crash killed either his son or his wife. He lives in two realities. One where his son survived the accident, and one where his wife survived. He doesn't know which is the real one, and he doesn't want to know. It aired on NBC, and was cancelled after one season.

A good review in The Globe and Mail.

Rob Salem in The Toronto Star seems to be too concerned with the audience not being smart enough to follow it.

Both reviews predict it won't last long. :-(

MTA: It's frustrating because this type of review, i.e predicting an early death for the show, could put off people who might otherwise give it a try.

Nice words from the LA Times:

it promised to be one of the year's best and most interesting new series. Having seen four episodes now, I'd say the promise has been largely kept.

Most reviews seem to be positive, and most of the critisism is about it being "too smart".

Well, then it's a good thing people can watch the pilot on the net and see for them selves. I've yet to hear/read anyone saying: "I saw the pilot, and it was too complicated for me".

Ooh, am I actually first with this one?? The New York Times recommends it!
" It’s a hard-boiled procedural that twists into a moody psychological thriller where dreams offer clues to the detective’s unconscious, and also the truth.
It’s confusing, but artfully so."

More, more, more . . .

http://www.hollywood.com/news/Awake_101 ... h/18980034

the good news is Awake has the potential to dry the peacock’s tears. It’s actually pretty great.

http://www.vulture.com/2012/03/awake-de ... ntion.html

Awake is that rarity of rarities, a TV series you haven't seen before.

Awake is, at once, heart-wrenching and compelling, and it is easily one of the best dramas on television, right now.

Does anyone know how it actually did in the ratings last night? These networks are so jump happy to axe something, and I'm hoping it had a really strong start.

I didn't want to start a new thread without knowing the consensus:

does anyone want a thread for our reviews? I recall seeing threads for each episode of Brotherhood.

On the other board, one review from a member: "fantastic acting" by Jason. This poster then went to the Jason thread and posted that she didn't know him except from HP. I fixed that with a couple of links. Image

I was literally on the edge of my seat: couch is just a few feet away and the screen is 56".....close-ups are a lot of fun......if not dangerous. *fallingoffcouch*

I found myself looking at his hands a lot for some reason. And, I LOVE, LOVE LOVE the rolled up sleeves. *drooling*

The comparison with the 'unsuccessful' (in the US) Life on Mars is interesting - I'm no sure whether that will sell the show to the UK or not (though given that the UK terrestrial channels can't afford/don't want US shows at the moment I have no hopes of seeing it before the DVD comes out.)

Thanks for all the reviews. :D

I just hope NBC continue to show the episodes online. It struck me yesterday that maybe they won't...

A lot of major networks are showing episodes online for their prominent shows as well as "on demand" with cable companies, etc. It is one of their ways to get a larger base of audience. I know that ABC has Castle, Body of Proof, Once Upon a Time, and others that they keep a certain amount of episodes viewable online for a certain amount of time. Fox does that for several of it's shows too. I hadn't been watching a lot of NBC shows until Awake (haven't liked a lot of what was on), so I don't know how many of their series they usually put online too. Usually the shows become viewable online 24-48 hours after the original airing time. At least that seems to be the practice for several networks.

I hope they continue to air them so you can watch them. {Smiles}

Let's be optimistic. They will end up on Hulu or some other website :stirrer
