I have never seen Maxine in anything, so she's quite new for me, but I like Ciran very much. I've met him after a performance and he's not only brilliant actor, but quite nice person too.

As for the accents - for me, all the english-russian accents are abominations. It never sounds right, rather like mocking of that actual accent. So I personally prefer when native english speaking actors skip it, and don't pretend. It's probably similar to when native english - speaking person hears all the nuances of their accents, so you can catch instantly when something is wrong with it.

There are some American actors who seem to think that there are two accents in England - posh and Cockney. If they are trying to be non-posh they attempt a Cockney, very badly. The famous example is Dick van Dyke's awful Cockney in Mary Poppins, where he was supposed to be an actual Cockney, but seems to have set the example for certain US actors.

Then there are people like Meryl Streep or Gwyneth Paltrow, who do an English accent very well.

When Paul Greengrass made the movie about the July 22 2011 terror attacks in Norway for Netflix, he cast Norwegian actors but made them speak English with Norwegian accents. It's better than just mocking Norwegian accents, I think, but it's really alienating for Norwegians to watch the movie. Because, we don't speak English with each other. We wonder why he didn't just cast English speaking actors instead. Or let the Norwegian actors speak Norwegian in it.

Is there no Norwegian version on Netflix? I have watched a few Netflix series, in Icelandic and Danish, where you can choose what language to watch and also what language for the subtitles. Similarly for an Italian film starring Sophia Loren.

I always watch the original language with subtitles because the English version is often so bad.

With a lot of Netflix programmes there are versions in various languages - you can tell if you bother to watch the endless credits.

No, they only filmed it in English, with Norwegian actors. Movies in Norway are almost always shown in the original language with subtitles, because we aren't used to dubbing, and we don't like it. It's just a matter of habit, I guess. Only a few movies for very young children are dubbed.

There's a Norwegian show on Netflix that they filmed in Norwegian and English. Only the English version is on Netflix. But it's a kind of black comedy viking rump, and them speaking English just makes it funny.
The Norwegian version is only available in Norway through NRK (it's like Norwegian BBC). I have seen both versions. In the Norwegian version, it seems maybe a bit more improvised, since the actors could play around with the script more. But the versions are very similar, anyway.

It's called Norsemen in English. (it's calles Vikingane in Norwegian) I will recommend it to anyone who are not too sensitive.

So far the worst thing they did in a movie(don't remember which one though) was to put a character, that was supposed to be Polish, and suddenly they did speak Russian in the middle of a sentence... that was a cherry on the cake of ignorance of producers weren't able to see the difference between slavic languages and nationalities of characters.

I assume the whole production right now had to be difficult considering current political situation. But I have a feeling it can have huge impact on the audience, especially with a way Russia is percived now. It may open some eyes.

On The 13th Warrior (viking-movie), they had a Latvian language coach who didn't speak Norwegian at all. The Norwegian actors tried to talk to the producer about it, that the pronounciation she taught the non-Norwegian actors was incomprehensible to Norwegians. The producer told them to their faces that he didn't give a f...

So the Norwegian actors decided not to give a f... too, and made up this ridiculus "talk like a viking"-accent that they went for and had fun with. While the not-Norwegian actors ended up speaking some kind of strange incomprehensible accent. Then they slowly transitioned to English... like we didn't notice.
