Oh! The podcast is from the Q&A DH and I attended on Monday.
----------------------------------------------------------
As it turns out, many questions didn't make it to the podcast. My question is at 1:01:58. Luckily, my messy delivery didn't make it onto the recording. The moderator asked most of what I said, and then referred to the first part. It was actually, "Dr. Daddy wasn't exactly Father of the Year, or Husband of the Year for that matter. How do you approach playing a character like that?
I now finally heard Jason's answer.

I'm at work right now so I can't listen. Did he say he did not think the father was bad - he wanted the best for his daughter etc., etc. I know Jason tries to infuse his characters with some humanity - even ones we see as evil.

He explained the father's point of view. He means well what he is doing to his daughter. He also mentioned (not sure it was in this, it may have been another interview) that he doesn't share the father's values. But to play the character, he needs to understand the father, and the father means it well...
