The 27th Critics’ Choice Awards (to be held January 9, 2022) nominations are out. The only nomination for Mass was for Ann Dowd as Best Supporting Actress.

I wish everyone thought so. AFAIC, major snubs have already started. (See my post above.) 🥲

That saddens me. I thought they would be a collective shoe in for the ensemble cast. I wonder if the rest of the critics will follw suit. Mark Kermode will have something to say about this. Bafta's could be interesting this year.

By the way Good Luck Ann

Yes, good luck to her!

The only possible reasons I can think of for the lack of nominations (so far) are:

1. Here, movies seem to have a better chance if they aren’t released “too early”, giving movies released later in the year more publicity time;

2. While the subject matter is certainly relevant, the movie was, maybe, a little “generic”, and not “based on a true story”; and

3. The movie is basically an “indie”, which—dare I say “by definition”?—means no nationwide distribution or publicity (which sort of ties back into #1, sadly).

Anyway, that seems to be the attitude here.

I’ll definitely have to keep my eyes open 👀 for the Academy Awards/OSCAR nominations!

Here’s a short list of dates to keep an eye on. If your favorite TV station doesn’t cover the nominations, may I suggest logging onto Wikipedia, then refresh your browser periodically, until all nominations have been announced.

Golden Globe noms are out, too…not good news for Mass:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/79th_Go ... obe_Awards

Here are a couple of others to watch for….

Academy Awards/OSCARS: Tuesday, February 8, 2022 (no time announced for nominations yet); awards presented Sunday, March 27, 2022;

BAFTA Awards: Wednesday, March 30, 2022 (no time announced yet); awards presented Sunday, May 8, 2022.

As with the nominations, you can get the results via Wikipedia.

Mass won The Robert Altman Award at Independent Spirit Awards.
It's given to the director, casting director and cast:

...I'm glad Mass is getting a lot of support in the comments.

What worries me is that in the UK it still has not got a theatre release date although it will be streamed. I think unless something changes this is an issue here in the UK. I do no know if it can be put forward for BAFTA's without a theatre screening unless of course it gets a London release in the next couple of monthes.
