Fasten your seatbelts/safety belts, everyone!!
Jason’s directorial debut brought out lots of angst from numerous characters, plus the ending of one chapter (Griff’s proctorship…which he—and Sam, when she caught him in a nice dance move at the elevator, and reciprocated—celebrated). This came after Griff told Vivian and Asher—who also had to “clear” Griff for his return as Head.
Lex met her new boss in Trauma (it’s not Dr. Kace) in a manner slightly reminiscent of how Sam realized who Malcolm was in Pilot; however, in Lex’s case, he’s right behind her.
Later, after pinpointing the issues of a patient who’d collapsed at the sounds of an ambulance’s siren and of a crying baby—twice, Lex finds out it was Dr. Kace who was the person Tim had cheated on Joey with,
Tim tried to apologize to Joey about the fling (without naming names); however Dr. Costa—who doesn’t know about Dr. Kace—isn’t ready.
Joey and Isan are still throwing insults at each other. Sam tried to rein them in, and says they’ll both be part of a “living lung” transplant between two women (the recipient has Cystic Fibrosis), although the donor’s Ecstasy use—and subsequent withdrawal—delays the surgery.
The surgery finally takes place, with Sam harvesting the section of lung, and Griff finishing the transplant.

While all of this is going on, Tina Kingsley has challenged Malcolm to get Griff out of the picture entirely. She’s planning on selling Lakeshore to a Brazilian group, and bring in the nephew of one of the group to replace Griff.
Rumors fly wild about the proposed sale, with Caleb talking about applying to a hospital in Boston. Sam lies to Isan about a new Department Head (she knew the name); when the lie is exposed during the lung surgery (and after Sam, not Griff, had already put the bickering surgeons in their places), Isan storms out of surgery. After surgery, Sam tells Caleb that lying is her “new norm”, and that she’s more like her father than she thought..unaware he’s behind a curtain, and can hear her.
Sam and Malcolm do some digging, and realize what Tina’s trying to do is get revenge on Byron (for her being on the short end of a nasty divorce settlement), and her proposed sale amounts to conflict of interest. Byron later tells Malcolm he’s proud of his son.
When Lakeshore’s Board of Directors gets the information, the sale is unanimously rejected, and it’s announced action will be taken against Tina. (She ends up leaving…I say, “Good riddance”!)
Griff then humbly confesses his actions to the board (we only see the first part, which Jason nailed!); however, we don’t know what the fallout might be.
Even though the sale has failed, Caleb tries to find out if Sam would go to Boston…then we see his laptop, open to an online application screen.
At the end, Griff is back in Vivian’s office, this time to celebrate the failure of the sale. She pours them each a drink (I’m not sure about the wisdom of that, given Griff’s past), then they end up kissing (in the previous ep, Griff “told” an unconscious Vivian she was the love of his life). The two problems with that were 1: Vivian’s office blinds were open enough for anyone to see, and 2: Someone *did* see…Lex.
