'Detective' genre is just not the right word for Case Histories anyway. OK, Jackson starts off technically as a private detective in the first book, but he isn't any longer by the second, and it hardly defined him in the first - he simply fell into it after the police and the army. Misfortune just seems to happen around him and he is compelled to help and pick up the pieces (well, he compels himself as much as anything). And 'Awake', as you say, is presumably going to focus on the dual realities he is forced to deal with.grannybear wrote:Maybe Jason doesn't want to play detectives but he's playing two in a row. Of course Awake is more of a study in human nature and Case Histories is also not your usual one. At least he picked two that were quite different.
But, you know, he's getting great work, simple as that. And, as an actor, you never know when the phone's going to stop ringing. He's lucky that at the moment he can be relatively choosy. But he's also clearly aware that he can't be too proud when it comes to waiting for the ideal roles. His talent and his humility combine to enable him to strike a very happy balance. Long may it continue.
