JI in "The End of the Affair"

Post by Malfoy Grandma » Thu Nov 09, 2006 9:32 am

 Caught again! In my continuing effort to spend more of my poor retired husband's money, and have ALL JI's film work in my hot little hands, I just bought "The End of the Affair," new version with Rafe Fiennes and gorgeous woman, and JI in his tiny walk-on as a stern Catholic priest! Maybe they cut a bunch of his scenes or something. But of that movie, one can't help but just remember how nice it might have been if JI were doing all that wonderful passionate stuff! Oh, well! His friend Rafe is very good at it too!

We often joke that we need a best of Jason DVD that would put all his scenes from the movies with his small parts together!! That way we would not have to risk fast forward finger to get to his scenes!!! :D

aaa.gif Yach! You know me all too well! I taped all the Brotherhood episodes and have actually worn out one of those tapes just rewinding or fastforwarding so all I have to look at are JI's scenes! Glad to know others are as silly!

Marie, you have inspired me! I am so inept on the computer, but I do have a burner, and I am going to go through my usual agonies of noability to try and make my own little "Just Jason" dvd! Is it possible? Well, I will let you know! sometime....much later.......

That depends: got the hots for Ralph Fiennes? (or Julianne Moore??)
Back in the day, I used to donate platelets for the Red Cross. Because it takes a long time (they remove a lot of blood, centrifuge out the platelets, and return the rest to the donor), they provided DVDs for you to watch, and that's how I saw End of the Affair. Glad I didn't pay to see it.
It's based on an autobiographical novel by Graham Greene about his adulterous love affair with the wife of a friend.
I think the focus of the book (I've never read it) is the redemptive power of faith (was the wife Catholic? Did Greene convert after her death? Can't remember, don't care). The focus of the movie, however, is on the passionate nature of the hero's adoration, which translates to a hella lot of soft-core porn scenes between Fiennes and Moore. There doesn't seem to be anything else to their relationship--because of her husband, they can't GO anywhere, and they never seem to talk; they just copulate copiously.
Then she has a big dramatic epiphany and won't cheat on her perfectly charming pleasant affable and utterly unsuspecting husband any more, which must mean of course that she's doing someone else.
But no.
Ceaselessly melodramatic and quite unconvincing (or even interesting), and Jason Isaacs' role is very brief indeed.

Mr Jason plays a Catholic Priest, who Julianne Moore seeks out after
she makes a promise to GOD, to spare Ralph's life after a bomb hits his house, during the blitz...

Before I was a JI fan, I was a Ralph fan (OK, stop throwing the vegatables) this was the last film I saw in the cinema....before
Pirates 3, and that's a long time in between...LOL

I do remember, there was only about 10 folks who had gone to see this film.

If you are building your JI collection, go ahead, his total screen time
is less than 15 minutes (that's a guess)

I've never seen the End of the Affair.

I intend to watch it someday (and a few other movies).
The fact that Jason doesn't have much screen time doesn't motivate me to see it.

I remember a quote from ?director about having to find an actor for JI role who's good-looking enough to make it believable that someone may cheat on Ray Fines with.

They found HIM!

Heh! Heh! Poor Julianne Moore, between having to decide between her husband's best friend, and a priest, no wonder she ends up with HANNIBAL LECTER! ~marilaine

Well, it looks like I won't be taping this, nor will I even get to watch it!!

Last Tuesday, I got one of those digital cable boxes, so I could watch the few basic cable channels that I was already watching without a box (but those arseholes changed it so that now we need the box), and to my delight, I had just about every movie channel, obviously unbeknownst to them, for free and for the past week and 2 days, I've been watching and taping movies like there's no tomorrow...But today, while watching Something The Lord Made (w/ Alan Rickman, yum), I lost them all, and now all I get is that damned "Not Authorized" screen...If I want to get any of those channels back now, I've gotta pay $4.95 a month for each (Showtime, Cinemax, Encore, Starz and The Movie channel, as well as Flix, Sundance, and IFC), and I can't afford that!!

Oh well, it's really no biggie, but now I'm back to square effing one, where I've gotta buy the DVDs... :-(

Yeah, I swear I hate these cable companies...They get you hooked with free channels, then take them away and expect you to pay through the nose to get them back...Ugh!!
